Pure Sex

Mosaic Christian Church partnered with me to create a bumper video for the longest series in the church’s history, aptly titled “Pure Sex”. The guidance was based on the two images below:

Using these references as a jumping-off point, I used suggestive camera angles and dramatic lighting to create a sensual atmosphere. As the video progresses, the jump-cuts become more frequent, the camera motions more intense, and the framings gradually inch towards more revealing shots. The idea is to make people think, “Are they really about to show nudity in church?”

At that point, the camera pans down to reveal that the genitalia has actually been cut out and censored. I wanted the video to acknowledge the feeling a lot of believers experience when it comes to sex: “Sex is undeniably beautiful but with so much guilt and confusion about God’s will for sex, sometimes it feels like it would be better if those parts of us didn’t exist.” This is the type of concern this series was designed to tackle.
